Career Counselling in Hospitality Management for Class XII students at DB Pune
Creating Master Chefs at DB Junior College, Yerwada, Pune
The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) and Don Bosco Junior College, Yerwada, Pune, collaborated to host a Career counselling session in Hospitality Management on Friday, August 4, 2023, for the students of Class XII in the Don Bosco Hall.
The session began with a prayer led by Tr. Blossom Lobo and a prayer song led by Tr. Anjali and the College choir. Tr. Pearl Fernandes welcomed the esteemed resource persons from the IIHM Pune Campus, Mr. Rupinder Singh Khurana, Director, Mr. Tamal Das, Senior Business Development Manager, and Ms. Apurva Singh, Marketing Executive. Tr. Vanita, Tr. Julekha, and Tr. Saritha extended a warm welcome on behalf of the Don Bosco Family by presenting each resource person with a sapling.
IIHM is part of the IndiSmart Group, a large conglomerate that operates IndiSmart Hotels and offers a wide range of services in the fields of Hospitality Management Education, Training, and Consultancy in India and Southeast Asia. Through its collaboration with the tie-up UK and the University of West London, London, IIHM provides discerning students with the opportunity to be trained in globally recognised skills and earn an International Degree in Hospitality Management.

Mr. Khurana, the Director, explained to the students the various aspects of Hotel and Hospitality Management and the trends in recent times in the world of hospitality. He reflected on the thought that ''Institutions, like organisms, must evolve and adapt. Continuous adaptation is required for any successful institution. Therefore, my message to all the youngsters contemplating a career in hospitality is that - Hospitality needs you!’’
A variety of presentations and videos were shown to the students. After receiving copies of the IIHM Hospitality Management booklet, students were introduced to a new world of culinary creativity.
"It is only today that I understand that Hospitality and Hotel Management are two different aspects; I always believed that the kitchen belongs solely to women. But today I realised that men can be master chefs. I, too, aspire to be one." said Master Samson Tribhavan of Class XII, Com. A.
Mr. Tamal spoke about IIHM and highlighted aspects such as nationally ranked and internationally recognised brands, career building programmes, international curriculum and progressive teaching methodology, hotel school advantage, state of the art, infrastructure on all campuses, education and industry synergy, training and placements, national and international campuses with standardised education, mentoring and student development, global networking, and alumni. He also stated that there are over 10000+ IIHM Alumni networks worldwide, and that IIHM students work in some of the world's most renowned and largest hotel chains.
Following the informative session, students were given the opportunity to interact and ask questions. Ms. Saroj Bagdi from the Commerce stream was brave enough to inquire about the financial status of the hospitality industry, whereas Master Joyel Sable investigated the possibilities of a career in the hospitality industry for musicians, particularly singers. Students had a great time interacting with the chefs and even requested visits from Sanjeev Kapoor, Ranveer Brar, and others. Students were given information on available courses, training periods, placements, and so on. Sir Leo D'Souza, the Supervisor, proposed a vote of thanks and invited the resource persons to similar sessions in the future.
The career counselling session was a joyful experience that taught students that this industry welcomes both men and women and allows them to be creative while serving with a joyful heart. Ms. Apurva Singh promised students more hands-on learning opportunities at the vibrant IIHM campus. The young chefs are now eagerly awaiting the opportunity to compete in the Junior Chef Competition and are excited to cook creatively.
