TREE PLANTATION DRIVE 2023

15/07/2023 - 15/07/2023

On Saturday, July 15, 2023, the staff and students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (Junior College) in collaboration with the NGO Being Volunteer, participated in a Tree Plantation Drive at Mahalunge Forest Land with the goal of instilling a passion for sustainability in students and assisting them to make the world a better place.
134 motivated students and 11 dedicated teachers were led by the active members of Being Volunteer, who welcomed them and gave a brief explanation of their organisation and the work they carry out. The Being Volunteer team had dug the pits and made all the necessary preparations. The students were separated into batches and provided with equipment, fertiliser, and saplings to plant. Along with their teachers and volunteers, the students actively planted the saplings and diligently cleared the area of all kinds of plastic waste.
Volunteers guided the students and demonstrated the proper method for planting and caring for a plant, which motivated them to engage fully in the tree planting activity. The students were taught the tree dance, which was a fun activity that they thoroughly enjoyed. The students and staff successfully planted 500 saplings.
Mr. Kailas Narwade, the event's coordinator, appreciated Don Bosco Junior College for including Green Initiative Projects in their outreach activities. The Supervisor of the Junior College, Sir Leo D'Souza, complimented the Being Volunteer team for bringing young and old together for this admirable endeavour.
The students received refreshments, unwinded, and enjoyed a day in the beauty of nature as they picked up important life lessons outside the traditional classroom. The collaboration between the students and teachers in making Mother Earth appear a little more greener made the activity a huge success.
